Cures Insomnia, a common problem for many individuals. Everyone experienced some level of sleeplessness at some time in their life. That is quite normal, but it's when this continue for days and weeks that it becomes a crisis.
The "Circadian Rhythms " that is the 24 hour cycle, is important to understand its relation to sleep. When it gets dark, the body clock stimulates the Pineal gland which produces melatonin, a natural hormone made in our body.
Sunlight shuts off melatonin production. It is necessary to have regular sunlight which increases the production of serotonin, a chemical in our brain that is made naturally from proteins and it is this chemical that gives us a sense of well-being, and regulates our emotions. It gives us a feeling wellness, and makes us function better and sleep well.
Causes of prolong lack of sleep or chronic insomnia associated with psychological problems can be traced to serious stressful conditions, anxiety or depression. Physiological problems can also be the cause of insomnia, including a variety of things such as iron deficiency anemia, breathing disorders, kidney dysfunction and diabetes.
Many side effects from medications can also cause problems with our sleep.
Our lifestyle cannot be ignored, insomnia can also be due to poor eating habits, caffeine consumption & lack of exercise.
Most of the causes of chronic or long-term insomnia are usually linked to an underlying mental or medical condition.
There are also psychological related insomnia. Some of these are: anxiety, stress, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and depression. It is widely accepted that insomnia may be an indicator of depression. In fact, many people do have insomnia during the acute stages of a mental illness.

According to a study conducted at the Marlborough Center for Sleep Disorders in the USA, people with a sleep disorder may be suffering from multiple underlying conditions, like fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue, that are acting up during sleep and disrupt the sleep process.

Make sure you don't drink a lot close to bedtime: Too much water will cause regular waking up to urinate.
Most of us eat the wrong side up. Our heaviest meals should be between morning and early afternoon. Eating heavy meals in the evening will cause some amount of gastrointestinal distress, leading to uncomfortable awaking hours.
Learn and practise to relax your mind: If your mind is racing with worry, you must prepare a list of relaxing things to think about. Anything, like visual imagery or a relaxing memory.
Practise to relax your muscles: Lie down on your back and starting from your toes, and move up to your head. Squeeze and release individual muscle groups. While doing this, breathe deeply and slowly from your abdomen. Inhale and count to seven, then exhale to a count of ten. Put your hand on your belly, which should be rising and falling as you breathe.
Convince yourself that sleep is absolutely important and make it a priority: We can never finish work, so don't try to. In this modern society we are faced with too many things to do with very little time to complete them. Most people sacrifice their sleep to do things, so they’re not allowing their body to get enough sleep.
When we don't get enough sleep, it affects our body’s ability to fight infections and diseases.
Just as we have to make time for other necessary and important activities like exercise and eating well, we are to ensure that our body is receiving the adequate amount of sleep.
Are we getting enough sleep?: The amount of sleep we need varies from one person to another. Each person's body is different. There are two basic things that do determine the amount of sleep we need: our age and activities. The older we get, the less sleep we need. If we are physically or mentally exhausted, we will need more sleep.

If we are going to overcome the problem of insomnia, we must adhere to the three environmental basics of good sleep: One, make every effort to have your bed room as dark as you can make it. This may mean additional curtains to blackout light or a sleeping mask. Two, your bed room is to be very quiet. Additional drapes or a white noise sound equalizer may help. Three, it's important that your bed room is cool and comfortable.
Temperature should be 68 degrees or less. Your mattress and pillow should be soft but not swallowing you up.
